Folded Figures BW

In the “Folded Figures – Black&White” series of works by Michael Wegerer, precise geometry and the illusion of Op Art merge to create an impressive visual experience. The careful folding and creasing of paper creates unique reliefs that play with the concepts of light, shadow and spatial perception.

Precisely defined lines and colour transitions create paper works that define space in new ways and invite the viewer into a dialogue with the artwork.

The “Folded Figures – Black&White” series, which first appeared at Galerie Dumas, goes beyond a simple play with contrasts. It opens up a space for exploring a universe full of motifs and cultural meanings. In a context characterised by opposites, black and white represent not only visual extremes, but also symbolic dimensions of beginning and end, light and darkness, and life and death.

This series of works thus not only represents an aesthetic investigation of the colours black and white, but also explores their deeper cultural and social significance. Michael Wegerer invites us to explore the visual and conceptual layers of his works, offering us a rich palette of possible interpretations.

The series was first presented at Gallery Dumas in February 2023.
